👋 Hi! Tell us about yourself and your training

Hi, my name is Kandiss Lewis. I’m from a small town in Georgia, but I currently live in Los Angeles, CA. I always knew I would end up in LA and I absolutely love living here.

Growing up I was always active in sports, and strived to be the best, to be the fastest, to be the strongest. Being in sports, I feel like I have always worked out.

In high school, me and three other girls would work out with the football players during weight training. Once I graduated High School, sports and working out was sort of on the back burner, but I quickly joined a local gym and would work out extremely hard up to three hours a day, five days a week!! Crazy, I know, but I loved it.

My training today is still intense, just not three hours intense. I love to run, I love running stadium steps, lifting weights, hitting the cardio and abs, boxing, and hiking. I am always switching up my workouts just so my muscles (and myself) don’t get used to the same thing over and over.

For me, since I enjoy working out it’s not a chore, it relieves my stress and clears my mind. I’ll go on a run any time of the day if I can.

⏱ Describe a typical day of training

I always tell people, if you want results, go to F45.

I don’t take any pre-workout and I don’t use any protein powders. I keep it clean and all natural. I don’t need to take anything to go workout…I just go!! I usually train solo. I have a couple of girlfriends that I can train with, but normally I go by myself.

I don’t get too technical. I start off running. Depending what I am working out that day I will run 1-3 miles. I’ll hit the weight room with Upper body, Back, or Legs, again, depending on what I’m working out that day, and then hit the aerobic room when it’s empty for abs.

Again, always changing it up at the gym. I was going to F45 for their amazing HIIT classes. Now, I am not a class person whatsoever (for many reasons I’ll leave unspoken) but F45 is sooo different, and all in a good way. The first week I took their class I noticed a HUGE difference in my body. I was amazed. I always tell people, if you want results, go to F45.

👊 How do you keep going and push harder?

Just go, it’ll be worth it.

I think everyone knows when you haven’t worked out in a while, it is really hard getting back in the gym and having to build up your stamina again. So, to keep that from happening, just keep it moving. Keep working out. Give yourself the time or break you and your body needs, but keep moving, stretching, and doing breathing exercises.

For my job, I have to stay on point. So that’s motivation right there. When you’re shooting in a bikini or have a fitness shoot, you want to look and feel your best. Just go, it’ll be worth it.

Also, when your workout attire is cute, you feel better working out and push harder. Just don’t wear makeup, your older self will thank you.

🏆 How are you doing today and what does the future look like?

Currently, my training is going great. Since we are all “Safer At Home” I have been working out and moving at home. I do go for a run and challenge myself to see how far I can go before turning around to run back home.

I had a great plyometrics workout the other day at the park. You get creative when you can’t go to the gym, but it has been fun and a good switch up. Stretching and Yoga has come more into play at home as well.

As for my future, healthy and strong in mind, body, and soul.

🤕 How do you recover, rest and handle injuries?

I have worked out for so long now, I have pretty good form when working out that I don’t really have or come across injuries. Thank goodness. If my body is tired or sore, I listen.

Epsom Salt bubble baths with oils helps ease and relax the body, massages, and sports therapy to get in a really good stretch. And sleep! I am a great sleeper, no problem there.

🍎 How is your diet and what supplements do you use?

I eat really clean and healthy most of the time. I would say 85% of the time I am plant based. I eat meat, but I can go two weeks and not have had any meat. Not on purpose either, I just don’t want or crave it. I enjoy cooking so that helps as well.

I don’t count calories, I don’t weigh out my food, I just make healthy choices. Now of course, If I want Mexican, or pizza, or a cheeseburger with fries…I will eat it and enjoy every bite. I don’t starve myself from any cravings. I feed that beast for sure. All in balance and moderation.

I drink lots of water, take my ginger and turmeric shots, as well as my Apple Cider Vinegar shots. I usually have one cup of coffee a day, and keep the drinking limited. Minus right now….in quarantine. Wine and Vodka have been showing face more during this time. But…I am not a snacker. I don’t buy junk food, so I don’t eat it. I’d rather have a bowl of fruit or greek yogurt, or some veggies with hummus vs any junk food. Like I said, I keep it pretty clean…especially at home.

👍 What has inspired and motivated you?

I do it because I want to be healthy and it makes me feel good. I don’t need any podcast, instructor, book, or even music to get me to workout. I just do it. It makes me better. Who wouldn’t want to be better and do better?

✏️ Advice for other people who want to improve themselves?

The mind can play tricks on you, you just have to learn to be still and have control over your mind.

Just go!! Your future self will thank you. You will feel better and be better. Not only for yourself, but to your family and friends. Start off small and work your way up. It’s not going to happen overnight or in a week, but you will see results and be thankful that you started.

Give yourself props and celebrate the small victories, they will lead to BIG victories if you just keep going. Push any and all fears out of the way, they’re just blocking your potential. Even sitting in stillness and freeing the mind of all negativity and old behaviors is huge.

The mind can play tricks on you, you just have to learn to be still and have control over your mind. You can change the way you think and reprogram your mind. Also, drink lots of water and wash your hands.

🤝 Are you taking on clients right now?

No. I am not a fitness instructor or trainer. I am just a fitness enthusiast.
