We talked with Ilez Badurgov in April, 2020.
👋 Hi! Tell us about yourself and your training
Hello. My name is Ilez Badurgov and I’m 31. I was born in Kazakhstan, but live in Dubai now. I have my own business and a sports governing body in Kazakhstan. There, together with my friends and local authorities of Kazakhstan, we have built more than 100 workout places for outdoor training because we care for those who can’t afford to pay for a gym.
I have been into sports for more than 14 years and I remember the thing which started my passion: My friends and I from university had a wager on who will have the best physic after summer. I have won and from that moment I knew that I want to achieve more in sports and in my life. I became a gold medalist in calisthenics and had a better strength than anybody with the same weight of 75 kilos.
Right now, I am 10 kilos heavier and this is my maximum. Also, I am doing some martial arts and won a gold medal in one of the tournaments here, in my home country.
I don’t have any sponsors and achieve everything without anyone’s help. For all of my life, I haven’t had any support, moral or financial, from anyone, except my mom.
After all the effort and years of tiring training, I got into a world of movies. There I was offered two good roles. One was with words and the second was in the film of a legend – Jackie Chan!
Sport isn’t just a hobby for me, it’s something that helps me to reach any goal along with strengthening my body and mind.
⏱ Describe a typical day of training
Most of the time, I have from three to four different workouts a week. The first one is all about strength. I do pull-ups with 100 kilos of additional weight. The rest of the week I train my street workout elements and doing some bodybuilding.
Sometimes I train every day, mastering some stunts for a movie when we are shooting something. I love movies and everything about them.
I don’t have specific workout programs because if I need to improve something, I just create a program myself. Protein, vitamins and other health supplements are quite often in my diet, but it depends on what physical activity I do.
Sometimes I just listen to my body and if it needs some fuel, I just provide it. My favorite exercises are one-arm pull-ups and weighted pull-ups.
As for my fitness bag, I carry inside a belt with chain, big bottle with water, and trainers.
👊 How do you keep going and push harder?
Personally, sport is not just a routine or even a hobby. I got used to it so much that I can’t even imagine my life without it. Even when I don’t have any time to do exercises, I somehow find a way.
Rarely I don’t train due to the psychological reasons. In this case, I just reschedule my train for tomorrow. Athletic and successful people motivate me a lot but only because we have the same goals. The biggest challenge for me is to set a world record for weighted pull-ups.
🏆 How are you doing today and what does the future look like?
Right now, I continue to be into sport so as developing as an actor. I want to attend some courses to be a better one and one day to become the best.
🤕 How do you recover, rest and handle injuries?
I had lots of injuries earlier but now I have experience to avoid them. Before every workout and have a proper warm-up and stretch for a while. Also, after weight-lifting exercises, I would have regular massages.
I don’t like travel much. I can’t stand to sit for a long time because I need some movements. However, yes, I do workout when I am out of the country.
🍎 How is your diet and what supplements do you use?
My diet is quite healthy with 2500 kcal of food a day. Deep-fried food, soft drinks, and burgers are out of my nutrition. However, my daily menu mainly consists of rice, buckwheat, chicken or beef and, of course, fresh vegetables and fruits.
Also, I drink protein and vitamins when there is a need. I don’t have a special favorite brand but I like to make a protein smoothie with raspberry, blueberry, banana, strawberry, milk, and ice cream.
If some social event I attend to serves food that I don’t like, I will try to find something that I can eat. Coffee not much, tea every morning, alcohol never.
👍 What has inspired and motivated you?
Most of the time I exercise without any music because it distracts me. I am really into reading about famous and successful people, who are still with us in this world. Dwayne Jonson, Will Smith, and Jason Statham are the people who inspire me the most.
✏️ Advice for other people who want to improve themselves?
I can give you a piece of advice, which I follow myself: If you want to be better in what you do, you must devote your every day, every drop of your sweat to it, even if the mood isn’t right.
🤝 Are you taking on clients right now?
I don’t coach people because that’s not the thing I like doing.
